共に武道のチャンピオンである両親（Al, Malia）の元に生まれた彼は、18歳の時、カンフーのヨーロッパ選手権で優勝し、その道の専門家として注目を浴びた。
1985年、チャイナタウン（LA）の道場で武道を教えていた頃、Wayne Wang監督（後の代表作"The Joy Luck Club"）作品"Dim Sum"（主演: Joan Chen)のアシスタントディレクターをしていたChris Lee(現Tri-star社長）によって路上スカウトされ、同映画にてデビューを果たす。
その後も数多くの映画でその武道の技を見せ、アクション俳優として活躍。
1995年、Christphe Gans監督の「Crying Freeman」（原作: 小池一夫、池上僚一）で主役に扮し、その演技力も認められた。
テレビ・シリーズ「The Crow: Stairway to Heaven」では主役Eric Dravenを演じ人気を箔す。
He was born a Martial Artist. Both of his parents(Al, Malia) are the famous Martial Champions. At the age of 18, Mark was already known as the top competitor of Kung Fu, who was the winner of some internatial tournaments in Europe.
In 1985, He had finished his Martial class in San francisco's Chinatown, then he was found by Chris Lee(The assistant director of the film "Dim Sum": actual president of Tri-star) on a street. "Dim Sum" directed by Wayne Wang, who later directed"The Joy Luck Club"- is his first film. (starring: Joan Chen) After that film, he appeared as action star in many films, showing his Martial and the gymnastics skills.
In 1995, he appeared as the title role of the film "Crying Freeman" directed by Christphe Gans, which was based in Comic by Kazuo Koike + Ryoichi Ikegami, and the film "Crying -" become his most important work. Also in TV series "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven", he was recognized Eric Draven/The Crow.
